ProCredit Bank's Environmental Management System Successfully Certified
ProCredit Bank, within the framework of the second compliance audit of its Environmental Management System, has received confirmation of successful certification according to ISO 14001:2015. The audit was carried out in March 2017 by TÜV Thüringen e.V. and confirmed in March 2018 and 2019. The certificate is valid until March 2020 and applies to all branches of ProCredit Bank.
The Environmental Management System enables ProCredit Bank to manage its environmental performance and minimise any negative impact on the environment resulting directly from the financial services provided to its clients. Any direct impact is limited to energy, fuel, paper and water consumption, as well as waste management. It should be noted that in 2018, the bank reduced its power consumption by 18%, its heat consumption by 46%, and its paper consumption by 40%.
ProCredit Bank aims to take an ecological approach to lending. By providing funds to its clients for environmentally friendly investments, the bank has a significant indirect positive impact on the environment. To this end, ProCredit Bank thoroughly assesses the environmental performance of potential borrowers as well as the social risks of their activities and provides funds only to those companies which satisfactorily manage environmental risk.
As of 28 February 2019, the funds provided by ProCredit Bank for green investments, i.e. investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmentally friendly projects, made up 15.2% of the total loan portfolio (2018: 12.9%).
